Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Humanising Technology Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the Improve English mobile application ("the App"). We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.
1. Who we are

2. What data we collect
Account information
To use the App you must create an account. We collect:
- Your email address, used for authentication via Supabase Auth.
- Optional profile details you choose to provide (native language, English level, learning goal).
Voice and audio
The App accesses your device's microphone during practice sessions. Audio you speak is transmitted in real time to OpenAI for processing by the GPT Realtime API. We do not store the raw audio recording on our servers.
Session transcripts and feedback
The App generates text transcripts of your spoken input and the AI coach's responses. These transcripts, along with structured coaching feedback (grammar notes, corrected sentences), are stored on our servers and linked to your account so you can review your practice history.
App usage data
We collect limited, anonymised analytics events such as:
- Session started / ended
- Microphone permission granted or denied
- App errors (no audio content included)
These events contain no raw voice data and are used solely to improve the App.
Device and technical data
Standard information such as operating system version and device type, collected automatically when you use the App.
3. How we use your data
- To provide the AI coaching service and deliver real-time spoken feedback.
- To save your practice history and feedback so you can review it later.
- To personalise coaching based on your settings (English variant, strictness, register).
- To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
- To improve the App's performance and user experience.
4. How your data is stored
Account data, session records, transcripts, and coaching feedback are stored in a hosted Supabase (PostgreSQL) database. Supabase is hosted in Australia or the United States — please refer to Supabase's Privacy Policy for their data residency details.
Voice audio is transmitted directly to OpenAI and is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. We do not have control over OpenAI's processing of audio data. We encourage you to review OpenAI's policies before using the App.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the App:
- OpenAI — voice processing and AI coaching responses.
- Supabase — authentication and database storage.
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
6. Children's privacy
The App is intended for users aged 13 and over (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and associated data (see below).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — request a copy of your data in a structured format.

8. Account and data deletion
You can delete your account from the Settings screen within the App, or by emailing privacy@improveenglish.app. Upon deletion, we will remove your account details and associated session data from our servers within 30 days. Residual copies in backups are purged on a rolling schedule.
9. Data retention
We retain your account data and session history for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for more than 24 months, we may notify you before deleting your data. You may request earlier deletion at any time.
10. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) policies that restrict data access to the account owner, and server-side API key management. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the App. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
